V2 - Building Simulations

This page is part of a tutorial. If you have navigated to this page directly you may start the tutorial at V2 - Building a First Model - Step by Step.

The model built in the previous steps allows us to already run basic simulations and build first scenarios.

We now navigate to the simulation area (Play-Button on the left side) and create a new simulation workspace with the "Add" button. After finding a good name, we pick the demo model with its sole scenario. We then create the workspace, and enter it by clicking its tile.

Afterwards, we will find an empty workspace based on our model.

First we verify that our data is loaded correctly. Then we navigate to Sheet 1 in the tab bar and add a new chart of the type "Model Tree". Finally we pick the "Revenue" node to open the chart.

We may need to center the view by finding the button in the lower right corner or by simply clicking on rearrange.

Now we can navigate our model by expanding its branches through clicks on the blue dots in the tree.

If we have verified that all data is there, we head over to the scenario manager, which is always on the first tab.

Step 5.b - Building Scenarios

In the scenario manager, we can manage our scenarios and assumptions. Let's start with creating assumptions.

If we click on the assumption button, the following dialog will come up, where we can pick our first Line-Item (e.g. a part of the model that will be changed during the simulation). If no nodes show up, we make sure to set them on "Simulation" during the modelling phase.

Let's stick with the "Market" node. The following settings screen can be left at default values (as shown below).

We will now be able to edit the market data assumption by entering an absolute change or a resulting simulation value.

Let's assume the market grows faster than we initially thought.

Now, in the Scenario Manager, we make sure that the assumption is active in the default simulation.

We may remove some of the columns that are shown with the columns dropdown.

We now head back to "Sheet 1" (edit the name with a double click) where we configure the tree to show the first simulation year by editing the filter, and by adding the second scenario in the "Inspector". The "Inspector" can be found in the upper right corner. If you can not find the "Inspector", look for the arrow on the very right to show it.

Now we can create additional assumptions and scenarios and analyze them in the Model Tree. We can also start testing different chart types.
