Project Rights

On this page we will show you how to edit and manage project permissions in Valsight.

Select the desired project

To get started, select the project you want to change by opening "Configuration" → "Projects" and selecting the desired project from the list on the left. Then select "Security".

Modifying Project rights

After selecting "Security" Valsight will forward you to the Security settings page.

On there you can select "Access Report" next to Project access to get an overview of the users and their access to the project. In our example we want to give access to the user 'Tutorial'. To do so we select "Edit" under the project name.

Valsight will now show an overview of all users with the option to grant either "use" or "admin" permission for the project.

Project Permission Implication
"Use" permission These users can see and enter the project in the Simulation UI. (warning)They need to be given specific permissions on the models and workspaces within the project in order to see or use them.
This permission is sometimes called the 'read' permission.
"admin" permission These users have an unrestricted access to the project. They can create models and workspaces. They also have full permissions on data sources, levels and dimensions.
This permission is sometimes called the 'write' permission.

Just move the user you want to give access to, into the column "with access" and save the changes. In our example, the user 'Tutorial' can now access and modify all models and workspaces in the selected project.

(warning) Users with the global "admin" right (Administrators) can see & edit all projects.

Grant permissions for specific models or workspaces

Valsight also allows you to grant permission for specific models or workspaces only. To do so navigate to "Configuration" → "Access rights". You will see an overview of all users alongside all projects and presentations. Now click on "Switch project" and select the project you want to grant permissions in. We will use 50 Sky Automotive in our example.

Our table is now filtered, only containing models and workspaces from the Sky Automotive project. On the top of the page you can filter which parts of the project are shown/hidden. Please make sure "Projects" is visible.
For our example we want to grant the user 'Tutorial' access rights to the P&L Simulation workspace. We start by granting access to the project. Select "Edit" under the project and follow the steps as listed above. Make sure to only give out "use" permissions.

Afterwards, return back to the previous screen and select "Edit" under the model or workspace you want to give access to. We will use the workspace P&L in our example. Keep in mind that there are different types of permissions for workspaces and models.

Permissions for models:

Project Permission Implication
"View" permission

These users are able to open simulation workspaces that are built on top of this model. They will not be able to open the model editor for this model.

This permission is sometimes called the 'read' permission.
"Edit" permission

These users are able to open or create simulation workspaces that are built on top of this model. Additionally, they edit the model using the model editor and change access rights.

This permission is sometimes called the 'write' permission.

Permissions for workspaces:

Permission Implication
"Limited access"

These users are able to open and use the workspace, creating charts and assumptions. They will not be able to change the configured workspace filter.

"Full access"

These users can additionally change the workspace filter and edit the access rights for this workspace.

Move the desired user into the appropriate "with access" column and save your changes. The user can now access the desired workspace and/or models.
